SPRING/BREAK ART SHOW NY 2020:
"LEVAN's ROOM: HOME" EXHIBITION
DIGITAL CONTENT PRODUCED FOR INSTAGRAM STORIES BY SALMAN, VIDEO REFERENCED BELOW WAS DELIVERED ON INSTAGRAM STORIES FOR THE 5TH DAY OF THE SHOW
In February, I was appointed to consult Levan Mindiashvili with my experiential and multimedia expertise prior to his exhibition "Levan's Room: Home," which took place at the Spring / Break Art Show in March 2020. Levan's conceptual and sentimental approach to his art and this particular exhibition was the primary reason why I decided to take part in the project.
The inspiration behind the installation stems from James Baldwin's seminal book "Giovanni's Room" in the history of queer culture; a love story between two men that begins and ends in a rented room. Levan deeply linked his world to the book's themes of fear and imposed cultural structures— referring to his journey from his home country to Argentina and then to New York.
I also deeply resonated with Levan's feelings on a personal level and it made this project one of the most exciting I've come to be part of.
I provided multimedia design and consulting services by scheduling the production of a storytelling visual paradigm for each day of the show to be executed on the various digital channels of his own and his sponsor's gallery, The Marisa Newman Project. As well as providing experiential consulting with the aim of further illustrating the story of the artist's mirror installations by curating and delivering a distinctive selection of sonics from my platform, Rave Scout Cookies.
The aim behind my overall curation and intersecting music with art was to alter and revoke inhibition among exhibition visitors without verbal communication, but through the use of one's senses.
